Congratulations to the Havasupai Fire Department, Supai Arizona.
After learning the plight of the Supai Indian Reservation at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, the Grant-Guys decided to take the Tribe on as a client at no charge. When we heard that the Village had NO fire engine we prepared an AFGP Vehicle application. The result was an award for a tough 4×4 crew cab engine to tackle the rough terrain. The vehicle was air-lifted to the bottom of the Grand Canyon by the US Army as there are no roads to the Village, only a mule path. The water in the Village is so heavy with minerals that it quickly destroyed the mechanics of the former fire apparatus several years ago. The new engine was constructed to withstand these stresses. Prior to accepting this vehicle, when firefighters responded to the scene of a fire, often on their bicycles or golf carts, they hoped that an adjacent garden hose was available to fight the fire. When we heard this story from a fellow vendor at a show, he put us in touch with the Tribal Nation Leaders who agreed to apply through us. The vehicle was delivered on 7/28/2015 and will protect the families of Supai and its firefighters for years to come. This fire engine is one of the only vehicles in the Village and will remain one of our proudest grant awards of all time.
